My Qualifications

I completed a two-year training in psychodynamic counselling at the Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF) in Kensington, London, in 1989. I then completed a seven-year training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy (including analytical psychology) at the London Centre for Psychotherapy (LCP) in 1999.

I am a registered psychotherapist with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC), and a member of the Association for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the NHS (APP) and the British Association of Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic Supervisors (BAPPS). I am also a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN, 1986). My first degree was in music and I taught the piano for a number of years.

I have worked in private practise for 21 years and in the NHS (adult mental health) for 28 years (including 3 years working in drug addiction). I carry out assessments for psychotherapy, consultations and treatments in an NHS specialist psychotherapy service, in Kent, for NHS patients with moderate to severe psychological difficulties. I also train and supervise psychologists, psychiatrists and counsellors in psychotherapy in the NHS. In addition, I am a training therapist for several London-based counselling and psychotherapy training organisations, including Goldsmith's art psychotherapy training course, the Birkbeck University training course in psychodynamic counselling and the Guildhall School of Music music therapy training course.

In 2006 I completed a training in EMDR (EMDR Institute, Levels 1 and 2), and I can occasionally offer a cognitive behavioural (CBT) approach where the concern is, for example, eliminating negative thoughts or learning to manage anxiety and panic attacks.
